Who can talk to MiOSbot
How new people get approved to message MiOSbot, how group chats are allowed, and what other people can and can't do.
New senders need approval
MiOSbot doesn’t answer just anyone who finds its number, address, or Slack app. On text messages, iMessage, and Slack, a new person usually has to be approved first. Your workspace admin decides the rule for each channel:
| Rule | What happens when a new person messages MiOSbot |
|---|---|
| Approval required | The person gets a short access code. Their message isn’t processed until an admin approves them. |
| Approved list only | Only people on a list your admin keeps can reach MiOSbot. Others get no answer. |
| Open | Anyone can message MiOSbot. Admins use this only on purpose. |
| Off | Direct messages on that channel are turned off. |
If you’re new
- Send MiOSbot a message on the channel you want to use.
- If you receive a short access code, send it to your workspace admin, or tell them you’re waiting.
- Your admin approves you. They may choose to notify you when that’s done.
- Send your message again. MiOSbot now answers.
Access codes expire after one hour. If yours expired, send a new message to get a new code.
Note: If MiOSbot doesn’t answer your earlier message after you’re approved, send it again.
What your admin sees
Your workspace admin reviews waiting people in DM access requests, filters by channel, and chooses Approve or Dismiss. Dismissing isn’t a permanent block. The person can ask again later.
Group chats and channels
Group access is separate from one-to-one access. Being approved for direct messages doesn’t let you use MiOSbot in a group.
- Your admin chooses which iMessage groups and Slack channels MiOSbot may answer in.
- In groups and channels, MiOSbot normally answers only when someone mentions it.
- Each group and channel has its own conversation with MiOSbot.
Email doesn’t use access codes. Your workspace admin can let MiOSbot answer anyone who writes to the connected address, limit it to listed senders or company domains, or turn it off. MiOSbot only answers mail sent directly to the connected address, not mail where it’s only copied.
What other people can and can’t do
Being approved lets someone talk to MiOSbot. It doesn’t give them your private connections:
- MiOSbot works on your connected mailbox and calendar only for you. Other people can’t use it to read, send, or schedule from your accounts.
- Mail that claims to come from you but can’t be verified is treated as coming from someone else.
