Use MiOSbot in Slack

Send MiOSbot a direct message, mention it in a channel, and keep the conversation going in threads.

Before you start

Your workspace admin connects MiOSbot to your Slack workspace as an app. If you can’t find the MiOSbot app in Slack, ask your workspace admin to connect Slack.

Send a direct message

  1. In Slack, find the MiOSbot app and open a direct message with it.
  2. Send your request.
  3. If this is your first message, you may get a short access code instead of an answer. Your message waits until your workspace admin approves you. See Who can talk to MiOSbot.

After you’re approved, MiOSbot replies in the same direct message.

Example requests:

  • “Summarize what I missed in yesterday’s planning meeting notes.”
  • “Draft an announcement for the team about the new holiday schedule.”
  • “Compare these two vendor quotes and tell me which one is cheaper over a year.” (with the files attached)
  • “Find a good time next week for a 30-minute call with Priya.”

Use MiOSbot in a channel

  1. Invite the MiOSbot app to the channel. When it joins an allowed channel, it posts a short introduction.
  2. Mention MiOSbot with @ followed by its name, then your request.
  3. MiOSbot replies in the channel.

In channels, MiOSbot answers when you mention it. It also treats these as addressed to it, so you don’t need to mention it again:

  • A reply to one of MiOSbot’s own messages.
  • A follow-up in a thread where MiOSbot has already replied.

Your workspace admin chooses which channels MiOSbot may answer in, and can set a channel so MiOSbot answers without a mention.

Threads

A thread in a channel is its own conversation. MiOSbot reads recent messages in the thread for context and keeps follow-ups in that thread together. Start a new thread, or a new top-level message, when you change topics.

Files

You can attach files and images to your message. MiOSbot can read them and can share files back in the conversation.

Limits

  • Typing @MiOSbot in an existing group direct message doesn’t add the app. Use a channel the app has joined, or message it directly.
  • Messages that mention someone else but not MiOSbot don’t trigger a reply.
  • MiOSbot only sees channels it has been added to.
